Flatness

Flatness analysis, control strategy and practical corrective action.

ALUTAG GMBH

Production expertise applied to real operating conditions

Flatness is the result of mechanical deformation, thermal behaviour, roll geometry, cooling distribution, bending and control response acting together. A flatness defect therefore cannot be understood reliably by looking only at the measured strip shape.

Alutag GmbH combines defect pattern analysis with process data, roll conditions, cooling behaviour and control strategy. This makes it possible to separate the visible symptom from the mechanism creating it.

Improvement work can include reference curve assessment, bending strategy, cooling influence, thermal behaviour and controlled production trials. The aim is stable flatness performance across products and operating conditions, not a single successful coil.

KEY TOPICS

Explore the Technical Focus

Defect Pattern+

Interpretation of centre buckle, edge wave, quarter buckle and asymmetric patterns as evidence of underlying process behaviour.

Reference Curve+

Assessment of target curve strategy and its relationship to actual process capability and product requirements.

Bending+

Evaluation of work roll bending response, limits and interaction with roll geometry and strip conditions.

Thermal Flatness+

Understanding how temperature distribution and roll thermal profile change strip shape during a campaign.

Cooling Influence+

Correlation of cooling zones, flow distribution and thermal response with measured flatness behaviour.

Verification Trials+

Structured changes designed to confirm the dominant mechanism and validate corrective actions.
